The Calgary Grizzlies and Calgary Rollers Wheelchair Basketball clubs are saddened by the sudden loss of one of our long-time members, Ranjit “Rambo” Sidhu. Tragically Rambo was killed in a climbing accident in Canmore on July 29th/ 2012 at the age of 31. Rambo has been a devoted member of our organizations for over 10 years and a passionate and strong advocate for the sport of Wheelchair Basketball. Rambo first started playing after participating in a class demo at Mount Royal College. He took to the sport immediately and has been a respected and valuable member of both the local and provincial men’s teams. Rambo demonstrated speed, quickness and a strong outside shooting prowess. He was a team player, a leader on and off the court and always took the extra time to share his knowledge with new players learning the game. Rambo was very dedicated to the sport and he traveled world wide to support the Canadian National Wheelchair Basketball teams. Rambo traveled to the Athens and Beijing Paralympics, and Worlds in Amsterdam and Birmingham, England. Rambo’s sports of climbing and Wheelchair Basketball were both passions for him and he lived a life full of adventure and challenge. All with a huge smile on his face.
On behalf of our Calgary Wheelchair Basketball community, we send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
“Rambo, you will be missed on and off the court, but will always be in our hearts.”
